I've never played lemmings, why do they end up in two columns after the left/right instruction? Why don't you have them go left until they're all in one big column and then have them go right till they're in the center?
Ok, *technically* speaking, this isn't how the game works. It's a 2D game, this is my 3D rendition using ChatGPT. That's just part of how I stipulated it, I tried to make some images with a barrier down the middle but it got muddy. I just wanted to use it to illustrate that the very same absolute command for a wide population with different relative positions will work for some and fail for an equal number, so I built the model to illustrate *that*.
Ah I see, a barrier in the middle would've made it much clearer. Then again, if there was a barrier you could maybe say "go towards the middle" (then again, the sign in the current one could say "go towards me" 🙃) but regardless I agree with the general point of the article and think it's a useful framing!
Let's not think too hard about how the mentor lemmings never made it home
RIP mentor Lemmings, you were the best Lemmings

(This is a great question and the one I feared receiving lmao.)

When I make it an actual game I'll take all of these into account — ty!
